DEA Drug Take-Back Day

On Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. a number of local Law Enforcement Agencies and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.  Bring your medications for disposal to any of 9 drop-off locations listed below.  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Last April, Americans turned in 390 tons of prescription drugs at over 5,200 sites operated by the DEA and its thousands of state and local law enforcement partners.  In its five previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners took in over 2 million pounds—over a thousand tons—of pills.

More information can be found on the DEA website HERE

Construction & Demolition (C&D) Certification and Outreach

 Request for Proposal

The Marin County Hazardous and Solid Waste Management Joint Powers Authority (JPA) is soliciting proposals from experienced firms who have certified Construction Demolition (C&D) recycling facilities and coordinated rollout of C&D Programs for municipalities.  The intent of this RFP is to solicit proposals from Construction and Demolition Contractors that certify facilities, ensure cities/towns adopt and enforce ordinance, and provide those entities with the outreach materials they need to facilitate a successful C&D diversion program.

Depending on the success of the program and availability of funds the JPA C&D Certification and Outreach program could continue for multiple years.  Currently $40,000 in funds are budgeted for fiscal year 2014-2015.

School Outreach Programs Evaluation

 Request for Proposal

The Marin County Hazardous and Solid Waste Management Joint Powers Authority (JPA) is soliciting proposals from firms who have experience in coordinating and/or evaluating school outreach and waste reduction programs.  The intent of this RFP is to solicit proposals from qualified consultants that can meet with schools, haulers, cities/towns and non-profits to document all outreach and waste reduction work that is coordinated by the various parties to Marin schools.  The consultant will then develop a report that will make a series of specific recommendations for improvements that can be made to the current system as well as the estimated costs and impacts of each recommendation.

Currently $50,000 is budgeted for fiscal year 2014-2015 for this project.
