Since 2015, Zero Waste Marin has supported nearly 40 schools across Marin County and our program continues to grow. Almost half of our schools have been able to decrease the level of landfill service they have at their site, and 70% of our schools have been able to increase their “diversion level”, or the amount of waste they “divert” from landfill through recycling and composting. Increasing diversion means more natural resources are recovered through recycling and composting rather than sent to landfills.
Zero Waste Marin is happy to share the following testimonials from school sites that have participated in our program. Thank you to all of our amazing school partners!
Parent, Neil Cummins Elementary
[The Zero Waste Marin] team have been invaluable to our school as we work our way through the certification process. They are proactive, helpful, professional, and work great with kids and staff alike!”
David Finnane, Principal at MLK Elementary School
Working with the Zero Waste Schools Program has been instrumental in forming the current student Green Team thriving at Bacich Elementary. Our third and fourth grade volunteers are not only reducing the amount of landfill waste on our school campus (no longer having to change out landfill bins halfway through lunch), but also having a direct impact on our broader community. Green Team members are proud to teach what they’ve learned and inspire younger students, peers and the community through their campus involvement and local projects. We couldn’t be more grateful to ZWSP for supporting our younger generation in becoming environmental stewards and taking an active role in safeguarding the future of our community and planet.
