Our program follows a reuse-first approach. Functional panels are given a second life whenever possible, conserving the energy and resources used to manufacture them. Panels that can’t be reused are responsibly recycled, recovering valuable materials and keeping them out of the landfill.

Who Can Participate?
Eligible participants include:
- Marin County residents with unwanted residential solar panels
- Marin County commercial property owners may also participate for a nominal fee

How to Request a Solar Panel Collection
Getting started is easy. Submit a request, and the California Product Stewardship Council (CPSC) will contact you to arrange pickup for eligible solar panels.

Submit a Collection Request
Complete the online request form with information about your solar panels and pickup location.

Schedule Your Pickup
After your request is reviewed, CPSC will contact you to schedule a convenient pickup date and answer any questions about the collection process.

Give Your Panels a Second Life
Whenever possible, working panels are prepared for reuse. Panels that can’t be reused are responsibly recycled to recover valuable materials and keep them out of the landfill.

Zero Waste Marin partners with the California Product Stewardship Council (CPSC) to expand solar panel reuse and recycling throughout California. Together, we’re developing practical solutions for managing solar panels at the end of their useful life while keeping as many working panels in service as possible.
The program supports a reuse-first approach:
- Working panels are evaluated for reuse whenever possible, extending their useful life.
- Non-working panels are responsibly recycled so materials like glass, aluminum, and other components can be recovered and returned to manufacturing.

IMPORTANT DISPOSAL NOTICE
Solar Panels Require Special Handling and Disposal Solar panels contain materials that require proper handling and must be taken to an approved reuse, recycling, or collection facility. Improper disposal can create environmental and safety risks. Whenever possible, working solar panels should be reused. Panels that are damaged, nonfunctional, or at the end of their useful life should be recycled through an appropriate program.
